On the occasion of the G7 Climate, Energy and Environment 2024 under the Italian presidency, AIN (Associazione Italiana Nucleare) in collaboration with nucleareurope and the Politecnico di Torino, will be organising an event to discuss:
- The role that nuclear plays in decarbonising the global economy
- How to move from declarations to actual implementation in Europe and, in particular, in Italy.
An increasing number of countries have chosen to include nuclear in their energy mix. A turning point was the COP28 Decision Text which recognises the need for “deep, rapid and sustained reductions in greenhouse gas emissions in line with 1.5°C pathways” and calls for global efforts to accelerate zero- and low-emission technologies, including nuclear and renewables. More recently, during the first Nuclear Energy Summit in Brussels, 37 countries – including Italy – “reaffirmed their strong commitment to nuclear energy as a key component of their global strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from both power and industrial sectors, ensure energy security, enhance energy resilience, and promote long-term sustainable development and clean energy transition”.
This event will gather representatives from the Italian government and institutions, utilities, industrial companies and international organisations.
