Head of Nuclear Sector Deal and Skills – UK Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS)

Greg Ashurst is the lead UK Government official on the Nuclear Sector Deal and nuclear skills in the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. Greg has been on secondment to BEIS from Cavendish Nuclear Ltd since September 2016 and was part of the Government team that negotiated the Nuclear Sector Deal with industry. Greg is now responsible for co-ordinating the government-side implementation of the Deal and leads engagement with the sector on its broad range of commitments.

On nuclear skills policy, Greg works with the sector to ensure government policy supports the nuclear industry in accessing the skills it needs. In that capacity he is a member of the Nuclear Skills Strategy Group (NSSG) – the leading organisation in the UK on nuclear skills.

Greg joined Cavendish Nuclear in 2014 as a commercial graduate. Before entering the nuclear industry, Greg worked as county court advocate across the North West of England. Greg holds a law degree from the University of Exeter, a legal post-graduate diploma from City Law School in London and is currently studying part-time for a Masters in Professional Legal Skills.
