
Mathieu Bihet – Minister of Energy, Belgian government
Since 3 February 2025, Mathieu Bihet is Belgium’s Federal Minister for Energy in the De Wever government. In this capacity, he pilots national energy policy by ensuring that security of supply is guaranteed, accelerating decarbonisation thanks to an energy mix which combines nuclear and renewables, and ensuring that energy is affordable.
Jurist by trade, with a specialisation in public, administrative and constitutional law, he he became involved in politics at a very early age by holding several key positions within the Mouvement Réformateur (MR).

A Member of the Federal Parliament since 2022, his parliamentary action is characterised by a constant mobilisation on energy and institutional files. In particular, he is the author of legislative proposals which aim at modernising the regulatory framework for the energy sector and accelerate investments in green infrastructure. Mathieu Bihet was also an effective member of the Commission for Social Affaits, where he defended a pragmatic and reformist vision.
A local elected official since 2012, he successively held multiple mandates in his commune of Neupré, contributing to territorial development and to the improvement of his fellow citizens’ living environment.
