Member of the European Parliament
François-Xavier Bellamy was born in 1985. After studying literature, he turned to philosophy. He entered the École Normale Supérieure in 2005, and passed the agrégation in philosophy in 2008. After two stints in ministerial cabinets, he left his position to teach in secondary schools and then in preparatory classes.
At the same time, he was elected in 2008, then re-elected in 2014, deputy mayor of Versailles, in charge of youth, secondary and higher education, and employment. His mandate ends in 2020. At the local level, he is also during these mandates the volunteer president of the Mission Locale.
Head of the list for the European election, he was elected Member of the European Parliament in 2019, where he chairs the French delegation of the European People’s Party (EPP).
Author of numerous publications in the press, he regularly gives lectures to various audiences and in 2013 created the Soirées de la Philo, a cycle of philosophy for the general public. He is the author of two books published in 2014 (Les Déshérités, Plon), and 2018 (Demeure, Grasset).
In 2023 he became executive vice-president of the Republicans.
