Philippe Meunier – Vice-President of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Council
Philippe Meunier was born on 16 March 1966 in Bron in the Rhône department. He is married and has three children.
He holds a master’s degree in business law from the University of Lyon. After graduating, he worked as cabinet director in various regional or local authorities.
He was elected deputy of the 13th constituency of the Rhône department in June 2007. He was Saint-Priest town councillor and councillor for the Grand Lyon urban community before being elected regional councillor in March 2010.
As a member of the Sustainable Development, Spatial and Regional Planning Committee during his first term of office, he played an active role in the Grenelle Environment Forum by securing the adoption of an amendment banning heavy goods vehicles from simply transiting through France.
He also wrote a report on the Rhône and PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), “Une pollution au long cours”, and a report on respect for republican symbols.
In the local sphere, he has given priority to spatial and regional planning, and support for the voluntary sector.
After being re-elected deputy in June 2012, he was appointed secretary of the French National Assembly’s National Defence and Armed Forces Committee.
His work has included writing an information report, with Philippe Nauche, concluding a fact-finding mission on the withdrawal in Afghanistan.
He is the author of a private bill that provides for revoking the French nationality of any individual who takes up arms against the French armed forces or the police. He is also the author of an opinion on the bill authorising approval of the agreement between the French government and the government of the Republic of Serbia concerning cooperation on defence and the status of their forces.
After being re-elected regional councillor in December 2015 and again in June 2021, he was appointed Vice-President of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Council, responsible for territorial development and international partnerships.
He is on the “Les Républicains” party’s defence team.
